Always I've thought that the photography can remember that our mind forgets, you can transform your memories in something eternal. My father used to work as a photographer, but now nobody wants to hire someone, because everybody has a camera in their phones, so a photographer isn't necessary. But a photographer has something that others don't have, a little camera that if you know how to use, can take wonderful photos further than your imagination.
How I found my passion of photography?
Many years ago my dad bought a camera, he always used to say that Nikon cameras are the best in the world, but I prefer Olympus (OM System now). I always dreamed to buy an OM System OM-5, but is so expensive, now I have to make do with my father's camera. Anyway...
All started in a trip for vacations in 2023, my family and I travelled together to Puyo, it was awesome. Obviously I asked to my dad to bring his camera with us. In the trip my father taught me how to use the camera, at the beginning is a little bit confusing, but later you understand. We took some photos of flowers and animals at the Zoorefugio Tarqui.
A Beautiful Night
It was a beautiful starry, clear night with a radiant full moon. My dad's camera, a Nikon D3200, was abandoned in the closet. So I taked it and I was looking forward to continue using the new 55 - 300mm lens that my dad had bought for that trip. So I put it in the camera, and from my window I started to do my fist photos.
It was the fist, too much light. In the night is difficult to take photos, you have to configure manily three things, ISO, diaphragm aperture, and shutter speed. In the night is more difficult, because you don't have light, so you have to compensate with other settings that could damage the picture, in this case the photo was almost neat to get burned.
Recommendations to take a good photo of the moon
To take a good photo of the moon, you must have a good lens with a lot of zoom, in my case it was 300mm for a reflex full frame camera but as you could see it wasn't sufficient. Later I had to cut the photo, so that's why it was a little bit blurry.
Also you need to put a low shutter speed, because the Earth rotate and you don't want a blurry moon. But if you do that you have to deal with other problems, your moon will be really dark, so you have to put a higher aperture and a higher ISO. But don't get excited with too much ISO, because it could appear noise in your photo, and it is awful.
At the final I used this configuration, it's not the best but works well...
| f/11 1/200 sec ISO 100 |
Conclusion:
So if you have a dream, fight for that, don't give up. Learn and enjoy the process. In this case, I had to practise a lot to take that photos, I had a lot of mistakes, and I'm here now, still learning. I want to take another photo of the moon, so if you can give me some advice I would thanks you a lot. I hope you enjoyed this blog as I enjoyed the process of take photos... See you in a next opportunity.

ResponderEliminarHi Antonio, Your blog about lunar photography reminded me of the first time I tried to capture the starry sky. Although I didn’t get a perfect shot, the experience was amazing, and I learned a lot about camera settings. It’s fascinating how one single shot can make you appreciate such small details. Do we really need to be in the perfect spot to capture the beauty of the universe, or is the key in knowing how to look?
ResponderEliminarIt captures the special essence that the moon has, thus highlighting the skills of a photographer as they always try to have a way to appreciate even the smallest of something and turn it into something beautiful.
